Lansdowne Scouts took the High Lakes Challenge to the summit of Mt Ruapehu over Easter. From Base Camp at the Ruapehu Scout Lodge the party made a gentle stroll (Yeah Right) to the Summit, with an assortment of watercraft. Realising the nature of the Crater Lake would count against them, they took their own lake. Armed with a large plastic bag, and a 2 litre bottle of water, the Ruapehu Create-a Lake was born and craft suitably lauched - to a rousing rendition of "Crest Of A Wave".
Clock up 2810m altitude.
An added bonus for two Scouts, Theodore and Dylan, was their scout investiture ceremony, in the fresh sulphuric air of the summit.
The next day the party undertook part Two. An inflatable craft (which could actually hold people!) was launched on Lake Rotaira - a more sedate 826m.
Challenge - ticked off
